Jean-Luc Dompé’s HSV exit gathers pace as club and captain back the call

Hamburger SV’s handling of Jean-Luc Dompé is reaching a decisive phase. The 30-year-old French winger has been sidelined at the club’s training camp and forced to train alone, and now the next step looks set to be exclusion from first-team and U21 sessions from Tuesday onwards.

The 30-year-old French winger has been sidelined at the club’s training camp and forced to train alone, and now the next step looks set to be exclusion from first-team and U21 sessions from Tuesday onwards. Dompé will not join the professionals or the Hamburg U21, leaving him to continue training on his own for the foreseeable future.

Club sources cited by indicate that Dompé’s exclusion will extend into the new training week beginning Tuesday. The decision has now received public backing from within the squad. HSV captain Nicolai Remberg said after the recent friendly against French side LOSC Lille: “I have always said I got on well with him as a person. But as we want to play, he is a different player.”

Remberg added: “He has incredible quality, I won’t deny that. But to play for us, you simply need a certain fitness level. The club has decided it isn’t there, and as captain I fully support that.”

Remberg’s comments underline the unity behind the club’s stance. The captain’s words carry weight in the dressing room, where the message is clear: fitness standards are non-negotiable.

HSV have indicated they would consider reinstating Dompé if he were to push to reintegrate, but the player appears to have accepted his current status and shown no inclination to redouble his efforts. His motivation to fight for a place looks absent.

Motivation appears absent on Dompé’s side. Despite the club’s openness to revisiting the decision should he insist, the Frenchman has shown no sign of renewed commitment to regain a first-team role.

Hamburg are increasingly hopeful the Dompé issue can be resolved soon by finding him a new club. Behind the scenes, talks with his management are understood to be progressing at pace.

Hamburg’s next training cycle begins Tuesday, with Dompé set to remain isolated from the group until a resolution is reached.
