Mexican coach Javier Aguirre arrived in Valencia on Thursday and immediately scrapped the squad’s scheduled weekend off. Instead, he ordered three back‑to‑back sessions in Paterna on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, leaving only Sunday free before his first public appearance at Mestalla.
Intensive training schedule
The three sessions, described in the club’s statement as Tres, will run consecutively from Thursday to Saturday. Con Toni Amor and fitness coach Pol Lorente, both part of Aguirre’s incoming staff, will lead the drills. The plan replaces a full weekend of rest that had been granted due to the international break.
These sessions mark the new coaching team’s first direct contact with the players. Aguirre has not waited for his formal press conference to set the tone. The intensive schedule signals a hands‑on approach ahead of his league debut.
Debut and club outlook
Aguirre’s inaugural match is slated for 11 October at El Sardinero against Racing de Santander in the eighth round. The club has scheduled his official press presentation for Monday 28 September in the Mestalla press room. His contract runs until the end of the current season with an option for an additional year, according to the club’s announcement.

Valencia dismissed Carlos Corberán on 13 September after five games yielded a single point from fifteen. Interim manager Óscar Sánchez oversaw two fixtures: a victory at Alavés followed by a defeat to Real Sociedad at Mestalla.
Sporting director Braulio Vázquez explained that he chose Aguirre because the coach is unafraid of the club’s current situation. He added that performance will be assessed day by day with the players.
The side sits in the nineteenth place, meaning the margin for a gradual adaptation is slim. Aguirre’s early message to the dressing room arrives before any public briefing, underscoring the urgency of his task.
