Jamie O’Hara declares Tottenham headed for relegation after Villa loss
Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara finally answered Jason Cundy’s persistent question – “Are you going down?” – after Tottenham’s 3‑2 home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, conceding that the club could be relegated this season. The admission came during ’s GameDay Phone‑In, where the former player vented his frustration.
Villa defeat deepens crisis
The 3‑2 loss to Roberto De Zerbi’s Aston Villa side dropped Tottenham into the Premier League bottom three and extended their winless start to the campaign. They now sit in 19th place after Coventry’s 1‑0 victory over Nottingham Forest. A defeat for Fulham against Manchester United on Sunday would leave them bottom of the table heading into the international break.
It was Spurs’ third loss in five top‑flight fixtures and their first five league games without a win since the 2008/09 season. The poor run has left supporters desperate for answers.
O’Hara launched into a furious rant, declaring, “I can’t believe how bad we are, seriously, what has happened to this football club? What has happened to Spurs?” He criticised signings such as Sandro Tonali, Savio and Omar Marmoush, calling them “absolute guff”. He added, “We haven’t got a midfield, there’s no fight in this team… we are the softest team in the Premier League, we’re going to go down”, and lamented that the club had “spent £400m to get away from the plughole and we’re still in it”.
Jason Cundy replied bluntly, “In all honesty, you’re going down. You will be doing EFL round‑up next season…”. O’Hara answered, “I feel like we actually will”, prompting Cundy to joke, “I think you need to start doing EFL round‑up now, I’m serious now, we need to have an uncomfortable conversation.”
Studio showdown and fan backlash
As the interview continued, O’Hara rose from his chair and headed for the exit, only for Cundy to block his path and keep him in the studio. Spurs fan Rob then called in with a more optimistic view, urging the club to bring back Mauricio Pochettino and sign three quality players while promoting four youth prospects. O’Hara dismissed the idea as “the worst advice I have heard in my life”, shouting that “bring back Poch? sign three good players and bring through four youth team players? what is this guff?”.
The heated exchange left O’Hara forced to remain on air, discussing Tottenham’s plight for the remainder of the show. With the international break looming, the club’s fate now hinges on upcoming fixtures, including the Fulham‑Manchester United clash.
