Italy ends the long break with a win and secures Mancini
Italy beat Turkey 3-1 at the Dall'Ara in Bologna, ending its maxi‑stop in the best way. In the last of the four scheduled matches, Roberto Mancini's national team took the field with nine players different from the eleven that had drawn in Paris against France.
Italy dominates and secures Mancini
The Azzurri secured the win thanks to goals from Scamacca, Calafiori and Pio Esposito. It was the second victory in a few days against the team coached by Vincenzo Montella. The match took place at the Dall'Ara, the historic stadium of Bologna. Mancini said: “We are happy with how we have improved as a team, regardless of the results. Being able to compete for qualification is already a great achievement.”
The second half saw Doumbia shine, while Vergara and Romano received praise for their performances. Mancini added that Vergara needs these matches to develop and that Doumbia is further ahead because he already plays in the Champions League, while Romano also delivered a good performance tonight. Ara is the highest area of the Dall'Ara, where the most passionate fans are located.
Montella under pressure as Italy face Turkey
Turkey in crisis and Montella under pressure
The Turkish national team, without Calhanoglu, Yildiz and Arda Guler, tried a very mobile attack but conceded the momentary equaliser goal from Simsir. The result marked Turkey's fourth consecutive defeat.
Vincenzo Montella commented: “I am motivated to continue but we coaches are precarious, that’s how our job is. I am calm, confident and determined to carry on with my work.” He also admitted having received more financially advantageous offers, but chose to stay because he loves his job.
Italian dominance in Bologna puts pressure on the Red Devils' chances
The contrast between Mancini’s solidity and Montella’s difficulties highlights Italy’s secure position heading for first place in Group 1 in November. With qualification now within reach, the Italian national team looks to the future with confidence.
