Italian criticism of DFB striker Woltemade after Juventus collapse
Nick Woltemade, the Italian press criticised the DFB striker after Juve’s downfall, because he could not prevent Juventus Turin’s first season defeat on Sunday as a substitute in the away match against US Sassuolo. The match ended 2‑3 after a wild final phase, and the media criticism remained harsh.
In the 60th minute Woltemade was brought on for the former Stuttgart player Nicolas González when the score was 0‑0. Five minutes later Sebastiano Esposito made it 1‑0 for Sassuolo, followed by Edon Zhegrova’s equaliser in the 82nd minute. Juve’s season defeat was already sealed.
Kieran Bowie made it 2‑1 in the 89th minute, but Zhegrova equalised again in stoppage time (90+1). The joker Vasilije Adzic, on loan from Juventus, scored in the 90+4 minute and handed the first defeat to the Old Lady.
Italian press criticises Woltemade
The Italian press, represented by the, wrote: “He still has a lot to learn and must get used to the level of the Italian league.” It further said that he is not yet able to find the right position, and the forwards still need to find each other.
Coach Luciano Spalletti pointed out that the joker role of the former Stuttgart player remains unchanged for now, because Woltemade must first reach the required fitness level.
Whether Woltemade will receive a DFB nomination despite the situation and the ongoing criticism from media and press remains unclear; Jürgen Klopp is expected to announce the decision on Thursday. More playing time and a DFB nomination are still far off.
Thus, the season remains a challenge for the young striker, while Juventus Turin must look forward after the season defeat.
