Ireland U21 midfielder Devaney joins Hibs on loan to Easter Road

19-year-old Jacob Devaney, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, has joined Hibernian on a season-long loan from Manchester United, with the club holding an option to make the move permanent at Easter Road in the Scottish Premiership as he seeks regular first‑team football.

Option to make move permanent

The loan runs for the full season, and Hibernian retain the right to trigger a permanent transfer at the end of the term. This clause gives the club flexibility to secure Devaney’s services beyond Easter Road if he impresses.

Devaney signed his first professional contract with Manchester United in 2023 and featured in the senior side’s pre‑season, coming off the bench to score against Rosenborg last month. The goal highlighted his technical ability and readiness for senior competition.

He previously amassed 18 Scottish Premiership appearances while on loan at St Mirren during the second half of the 2025-26 season. That spell gave him valuable experience of the league’s physical demands.

Hibs head coach David Gray said, "We’re really pleased to bring Jacob to the club. He already has experience of Scottish football and knows the demands of the Premiership, which will be important as he settles into the squad. He’s a technically talented young international footballer who is keen to learn and develop, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the group. To have him join before the end of the window is really positive, and we’ll look to get him settled in as quickly as possible."

Devaney joins three other Irish players at Hibernian – Jamie McGrath, Owen Elding and Warren O'Hora – further strengthening the club’s Irish contingent.
