Iraola warns Liverpool's inconsistency inevitable after slow start

Liverpool were held to their third draw of the season by Fulham on Saturday, leaving the Reds without a win as they navigate a sluggish start. The goalless stalemate highlighted a lack of creativity, a sharp contrast to the recent comeback triumph over Atletico Madrid.

Iraola's assessment of the draw

Andoni Iraola described the fixture as his most frustrating experience since taking charge, calling it a clear step backward after encouraging victories against Ipswich Town and Atletico Madrid. "I understand the frustration the other day because we were also frustrated," he said, adding that the performance fell short of the standards set in the previous games.

He warned that fluctuating performances are inevitable as the squad adapts to his tactical approach, insisting the team must accept ups and downs while striving for the style displayed in the earlier wins. "The key now is consistency to perform like this," Iraola asserted.

Looking ahead to the cup tie

Liverpool’s schedule will intensify with a Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night at Anfield, testing the manager’s rotation plans. Iraola admitted he is still evaluating which players can handle three‑day turnarounds, citing Jeremy Jacquet as an example of someone yet to prove his durability.

Injury updates saw Joe Gomez back in training after a pre‑season muscle problem, while Northern Ireland right‑back Conor Bradley remains far from full fitness due to a long‑term knee issue. Iraola noted Giovanni Leoni is ahead of Bradley in recovery, but both will need time before rejoining the first‑team squad.

With the cup tie looming, Liverpool must find a rhythm quickly if they are to convert early promise into tangible results.
