Iraola warns Liverpool must lift standards after goalless draw

Andoni Iraola told Liverpool that the side must lift its standards after a goalless draw with Fulham at Anfield on the weekend, saying the Reds failed to create clear chances and left fans disappointed. The result also marked Fulham's first point of the season and left Liverpool six points adrift of the league leaders.

Match result leaves Liverpool on the back foot

The Reds were held to a goalless draw by the Cottagers at Anfield, giving Fulham their first point of the season as the west Londoners frustrated Liverpool's attacks.

The stalemate leaves Liverpool six points behind the pace set by Arsenal and Manchester City, and it marks the first time this season the club has failed to win any of its two Premier League games at Anfield.

Upcoming cup tie offers chance to reset

Comments Sport Samuel Meade, Sports Brand Writer, noted on 15 Sep that Iraola was “not overly impressed” with the display and that “there is no point making excuses or complaining about the time that we have to recover”. He added that “we should certainly be aiming for higher performance levels than we were able to reach at the weekend”. The piece featured two Images and a View of the Anfield crowd.

Their Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham on Tuesday offers a chance for improvement, even though it will be Liverpool’s fourth game in eleven fixtures.

Iraola also said several players deserve more minutes and that squad rotation will be considered, noting that similar challenges are faced by clubs in the US and that decisions will be made ON a regular basis.

Last week Liverpool’s win in Europe over Atletico Madrid, a comeback from a goal down, was hailed as the season’s best result and highlighted the impact Anfield can have when hosting big opponents.

Tottenham, the north Londoners, have under‑performed this season, failing to score in four league outings and only finding success in the Carabao Cup where they beat Charlton.
