Iraola's pre‑season hinges on world‑class Isak's Liverpool return

Alexander Isak, the world‑class striker, will re‑join Liverpool this week as Andoni Iraola embarks on his first pre‑season as the club’s head coach, marking a crucial period for the Reds to build fitness and embed his tactical philosophy for the upcoming campaign.

Pre‑season is a hugely important period for Andoni Iraola as he begins life as Liverpool head coach. The primary focus will be building fitness and preparing the squad for the new season. It also offers Iraola his first real opportunity to work closely with his players and introduce the tactical principles that have defined his coaching career.

The period is equally significant for Liverpool’s younger players. A new manager often brings a fresh perspective, giving academy prospects and fringe players the chance to make an impression. Training sessions and pre‑season friendlies will be their opportunity to meet the physical and tactical demands of Iraola’s high‑intensity style.

From Iraola’s point of view, pre‑season is also a chance to assess whether Liverpool already possess some of the profiles he is looking for. Rather than turning immediately to the transfer market, he may find that a number of internal solutions are ready to step up. Competition for places is set to be fierce.

There has already been more intensity in the training sessions and a clear drive to get the players to release the ball quicker. All of that is geared towards Liverpool playing a more intense and direct style of football that aligns with the identity forged under Jurgen Klopp. Iraola looks very excited to get his ideas implemented.

Liverpool’s transfer activity has been quiet this month. After acquiring Victor Munoz back in June, the club’s top target Yan Diomande rejected the Reds in favour of two‑time Champions League winners Paris Saint‑Germain. A large number of players remain at the World Cup, limiting the squad for the immediate pre‑season.

Key players are set to return to the AXA training centre this week after the World Cup, including Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz. Alongside them, Alexander Isak, described as one of the best forwards in the world, will also be back. The Spaniard’s style of play will suit Isak and his extensive pre‑season should leave him in great shape for the start of the season.

Seeing Isak used correctly under Iraola promises to be a special sight for Liverpool fans, and his presence could shape the squad’s direction as the new campaign begins.
