Iraola Doesn't Rate and Liverpool Must Put Federico Chiesa on sale

Iraola Doesn't Rate and Liverpool Must Put Federico Chiesa on sale

Liverpool must put Federico Chiesa on sale after manager Iraola publicly stated he doesn’t rate the 28‑year‑old forward. The Italian, who arrived in the summer of 2024 for a £10 million fee on a £120,000‑a‑week contract, has struggled with injuries and has yet to feature this term.

Chiesa's troubled spell at Liverpool

Chiesa managed only nine starts from fifty total appearances, a clear sign of his limited impact. Persistent injury problems kept him sidelined during the opening months and have returned this season, leaving him with zero minutes played so far. Consequently, he was omitted from Liverpool’s Champions League squad for the upcoming group matches.

Iraola’s lack of confidence means the club is expected to list the forward for sale in the January window. The manager’s comment that he “doesn’t rate” Chiesa underscores the urgency of the decision. A sale would also free up wages and a squad place for new signings.

Liverpool’s transfer agenda for 2027 already includes a hunt for a central midfielder after Curtis Jones’s summer exit. Senior correspondent Ben Jacobs confirmed contact with Monaco’s Lamine Camara, while interest also extends to Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and AS Roma’s Manu Kone. The Reds also chased right‑wing options Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh, but no deal materialised before the window closed.

Further concerns loom over the back‑line, with contracts of goalkeeper Alisson and defender Virgil van Dijk due to expire in 2027 and no extensions agreed. Should full‑back Conor Bradley fail to regain fitness, a new right‑back will be required, and Milos Kerkez may need to share left‑back duties.

James Beavis' media career

James Beavis works as a senior editor at GIVEMESPORT, a role he has held for more than ten years. He earned a Sports Journalism degree from Southampton Solent University in 2012, launching a career that spans writing, editing and exclusive reporting.

After a three‑year stint at Shoot Magazine, Beavis joined Football FanCast in 2016, progressing from freelance writer to editor. In 2020 he moved across to GMS, where he continues to develop high‑profile stories for the outlet.

Beavis has cultivated strong relationships with top‑tier journalists such as Fabrizio Romano, Dharmesh Sheth and Ben Jacobs, regularly chatting with them as part of an exclusives initiative. He often “gives” insiders early access to transfer details, enhancing GIVEMESPORT’s reputation for breaking news.

The report, via Reuters, suggests Chiesa could be back available for Iraola as early as the Sunday clash against Manchester City, but his exclusion from the Champions League roster means he will miss the next group games. Liverpool are therefore likely to confirm his sale before the winter transfer deadline.
