Iraola blocks Mamadiashvili’s bid, Alisson stays No 1 for Liverpool

One of the substitutes, Giorgi Mamadiashvili, is pushing for Premier League minutes as Liverpool sit sixth in the Premier League and manager Andoni Iraola confirms he will keep Alisson Becker as the undisputed first‑choice goalkeeper after the Georgian impressed in the Carabao Cup win over Spurs.

Some places in the starting eleven are already settled. Ronald Araujo remains the virtual lock at right‑back, while Jeremy Jacquet and Virgil van Dijk continue to partner at centre‑half and Alexander Isak leads the line.

Goalkeeper hierarchy

Sources told Football Insider that Iraola will only consider Mamadiashvili if Alisson suffers an injury, keeping the Brazilian as the undisputed option despite occasional shaky performances last season.

The 33‑year‑old Alisson endured a down year last term but has shown signs of resurgence, notably a near‑post save against Bournemouth that denied Evanilson in his most recent league outing. He was not the only player to experience a dip in form across the squad.

Until an injury occurs, Mamadiashvili will likely remain confined to cup appearances and occasional deputising in the league or Champions League. Should Alisson’s contract expire next summer and the club part ways, the Georgian could be promoted to No 1.
