Inter’s youth gamble: Lavelli and Mosconi score on Donnarumma
Chissà com'è segnare un rigore a Gigio Donnarumma. In a summer friendly, both Matteo Lavelli and Mattia Mosconi stepped up, each converting a spot‑kick against the Inter goalkeeper and delivering decisive moments for the side.
Cristian Chivu, travelling on a tour that spanned Hong Kong and Perth, has been the daily mentor for the two baby nerazzurri, guiding their development while they absorb the club’s philosophy abroad.
Inter’s strategy leans heavily on youth, a vision that the Duomo can cast as a home‑shadow for the next generation, aiming to build a future anchored in homegrown talent.
Lavelli’s 2026 began with a dream debut on 4 January, entering Serie A in the final minutes for Marcus Thuram and later earning call‑ups for a German training camp before joining the Asian tour.
During the first friendly on the other side of the world, Lavelli seized the chance to beat Donnarumma from the spot and scored the decisive penalty that secured Inter’s win over the new Manchester City of Maresca.
Mosconi, a year older, also found the net against Gigio, and in Germany he explained that he enjoys playing as a second striker, working “shoulders to the goal” while preferring to support the main forward and create assists. He added, “The dream is to play regularly in the first team.”
Inter evaluates only loan moves for the pair, reasoning that limited space at home makes it wiser not to keep two prospects idle while the club still targets them.
Both players attract market interest as raw diamonds, yet Inter shows no urgency, preferring to develop them in the Under‑23 squad under Stefano Vecchi or in a challenging Serie C environment.
Chivu continues to monitor his protégés with great interest, emphasizing that the babies are a technical and potentially economic asset that could shape Inter’s future.
The contrast between the immediate thrill of scoring against Donnarumma and the measured, loan‑focused development plan reveals Inter’s dual aim: celebrate youthful breakthroughs while safeguarding a long‑term pipeline for the club.
