Inter’s stalled chase of Liverpool’s £35 million midfielder Curtis Jones
Liverpool’s £35 million midfielder Curtis Jones is attracting renewed interest from Inter Milan while the Englishman is on a preseason tour in the United States, and his contract runs out in 2027, leaving the club with only one year left before a potential free exit.
Inter Milan have been tracking Jones since January, when an early bid was turned down. The Italian club’s hierarchy has refused to lower their £35 million valuation, keeping the price above Inter’s current offer. The image credit for the story is IMAGO.
A club report noted that the Nerazzurri’s immediate focus is on signing a central defender and a right‑winger. Consequently, the pursuit of Jones has been relegated to a lower priority for the side.

Liverpool are also wrestling with contract uncertainty over midfielders Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott, both of whom are tied to the club until 2027 but have yet to sign extensions. The lack of new deals means the Reds could be forced to sell one or both this window to avoid losing them on a free transfer.
Jones, 25, has only one year left on his contract, meaning he could leave on a free next summer if Liverpool fail to secure a new deal or sell him. Director Richard Hughes has yet to meet the midfielder’s demands, keeping negotiations open and adding pressure to resolve the situation.
With the squad currently on a preseason tour in the United States and Alexis Mac Allister still on holiday, Jones is expected to feature in the opening stages of the campaign under new head coach Andoni Iraola. Regular game time could give the Englishman leverage to push for a contract extension.
If Inter’s patience wanes, Liverpool may retain Jones and avoid a free departure, preserving midfield depth for the upcoming Premier League season. Conversely, Inter would need to redirect its resources toward the defender and winger it prioritises, leaving Jones’ future in limbo.
