Inter’s €32m gamble on Curtis Jones reshapes Milan’s budget
In the bustling San Siro offices, Inter Milan’s sporting director signs off on a deal that will see 22‑year‑old English midfielder Curtis Jones don the Nerazzurri shirt, after a summer‑long negotiation that culminated in a €32 million fee plus €4 million in bonuses.
The talks stretched across the entire summer transfer window, with Inter finally securing an agreement with Liverpool for the English midfielder born in 2001. The club, known as the Nerazzurri, will add Jones to its midfield ranks. The move will see Jones relocate to Milano to join the Nerazzurri.
Transfer fee and contract details
Inter agreed to pay Liverpool €32 million, with an additional €4 million in performance‑related bonuses. Jones signed a contract that runs until 2031 and guarantees him a net annual salary of €3.5 million. The agreement with the player had been sealed weeks earlier, reflecting the board’s work on the deal.
The signing follows other Premier League acquisitions by Cristian Chivu, who has already bolstered the defence with John Stones and added winger Djed Spence. With the return of Aleksandar Stankovic, Jones is expected to rotate in the midfield core.
Budget impact for 2026/27
Accounting for a five‑year deal, the amortisation charge for Jones’s registration in the 2026/27 financial year will be €6.4 million. This figure derives from spreading the €32 million fee over the contract length.
Jones’s gross salary, calculated from his €3.5 million net wage, amounts to €6.48 million for the same season. The salary component therefore adds a substantial cost beyond the amortisation.
Combined, the amortisation and salary push the total budgetary impact of the transfer to €12.48 million in the 2026/27 accounts. The numbers will be confirmed when Inter publishes its financial statements on 30 June 2027.
