Inter legend Bergomi praises Malen's €25 million transfer to Rome

Donyell Malen started for AS Roma with a hat‑trick against AC Florence and a double‑brace against Lecce, while Inter legend Giuseppe Bergomi praised the €25 million transfer in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

Bergomi analyses Malen's playing style

In the interview, the 1982 World Cup winner Bergomi explained that Malen is “unique and at the same time the heir of many goal‑scorers”. He did not compare him to Ronaldo, but emphasized his drive to move and his finishing strength.

The former Inter defender highlighted Malen's skill in tight spaces, his off‑the‑ball runs and his forward thrusts into depth. Despite his average stature of 190 cm, Bergomi said, he differs from the colossal centre‑forwards that are currently in vogue.

With six goals and one assist in the opening matches, Malen has already convinced the Giallorossi fans. The hat‑trick at the start of the season and the double‑brace against Lecce demonstrate his comprehensive repertoire.

The transfer from Rome cost €25 million – the same amount that Borussia Dortmund received when selling to Aston Villa. In England, the Dutchman mainly made an impact through substitutions.

Malen was originally in the Dutch squad of coach Xavi Hernández, but had to return due to injury and missed the 1‑1 draw against Germany. At the World Cup he played all three group matches, but was on the bench in the round of 16.
