Inter eye Perisic as low‑cost wing‑back fix after Darmian’s exit

Inter eye Perisic as low‑cost wing‑back fix after Darmian’s exit

Darmian Exit Leaves Inter Eyeing Perisic as a Low-Cost Wing-Back Fix, as the Nerazzurri turn to 37‑year‑old Ivan Perisic to fill the right flank after Matteo Darmian’s departure. The club hopes the familiar Croatian can provide experience without stretching the wage bill, while negotiations continue for a new centre‑back.

Inter Milan’s summer search for a wing‑back has stalled on every alternative target for either technical or economic reasons. The club has paused the active external hunt and is focusing on internal options that meet the cost box criteria.

According to Niccolò Righi writing for Tuttomercatoweb, Inter has momentarily stepped back from the external search to concentrate on negotiations with Tottenham over Cristian Romero. Nevertheless, Perisic’s name has remained live in internal discussions as the profile that ticks the cost box.

Tottenham’s English right‑back Djed Spence was also examined, but the Englishman’s €40 million asking price was deemed excessive by Inter’s technical staff. Spence offers physicality and intensity but lacks the one‑versus‑one qualities that attracted Inter to other targets.

Other candidates such as Palestra, Khalaili, Douè, Molina, Read and Belghali were assessed and set aside on technical or financial grounds. None of the profiles examined so far offered the right balance between technical quality and economic sustainability.

The Croatian’s appeal is simple: he requires minimal adaptation, knows the environment inside out, and both his transfer fee and wage demands would be contained. The plan would see any Perisic return function in tandem with the development of Diouf and Luis Henrique on the right flank – experienced cover rather than a long‑term starter.

Inter’s priority now is closing the flank gap left by Matteo Darmian’s departure without overextending financially. If no better option materialises before the window closes, Perisic represents the path of least resistance, offering a wing player who can also operate as a back.

The club needs a wing player who can also operate as a back, and Perisic fits that mould while keeping costs under control.
