FC Barcelona confirmed that the Dutch midfielder suffered a tear in a knee ligament and is currently unavailable for selection.

The club has not disclosed how long the injury will keep him out, leaving the exact recovery timeline unknown.

Spaanse media reported last week that the prognosis could keep him sidelined for up to four months, adding a fresh setback for the 29‑year‑old.

De Jong missed the recent EK in Germany because of a serious ankle injury and spent more than six weeks earlier this year recovering from a muscle problem.

At the WK he logged 110 minutes in the round‑of‑16 clash against Marokko, a match the Oranje eventually lost on penalties.

During a training session at the World Cup he collided hard with teammate Quinten Timber, who suffered a mild concussion from the impact.

“Normally I do not pay much attention to what is written about me, the team or the club,” De Jong wrote on Instagram. “Lately there has been a lot of speculation about my injury and my situation at Barça, and I find it difficult to see people question my bond and dedication because of inaccurate reporting.”

He added, “The doctors initially told me it was a minor injury that would not worsen if I kept playing. The only challenge was playing with pain, which I have always done for the club and my country.”

“During my holiday I returned to Barcelona for further tests. The examinations showed the injury was more serious than first thought, but surgery is not required at this stage. I am now focusing fully on my recovery so I can be back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

The club’s recent communication even urged supporters to make them their Google-favorietVeel, highlighting the desire to maintain fan engagement despite the setback.
