Injury doubts force Torino to reshuffle attack before Roma test

Torino head coach Ignazio Abate heads into Monday’s clash with Roma under pressure, as injury doubts could leave the Granata without a recognised centre‑forward and threaten their chance to build on the recent win against Fiorentina. The side will also have to manage the absence of Che Adams and the uncertainty surrounding Giovanni Simeone.

Early season setbacks

Torino’s campaign began in dismal form, crashing out of the Coppa Italia at home to Monza and losing the first two Serie A matches against AC Milan and Sassuolo. The Granata then secured a 2‑1 victory away to Fiorentina, offering a brief lift before facing a strong Roma side. Il Granata still seeks consistency.

Abate noted that the squad still has two additional strikers, allowing him to consider a line‑up without a traditional centre‑forward. He praised Zapata’s training progress and said the team can adapt by using a mezz’ala or other midfield roles if needed. The flexibility could be crucial against a disciplined defence.

Monday’s showdown

The encounter kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino in Turin (TURIN) on Monday at 17.30 UK time (18.30 CEST). Roma, currently in a bright spell, will test the Granata’s defensive resolve. La partita promises a tactical battle as Abate seeks to prove his side can compete.

Abate warned that Roma will look to suffocate Torino and that a high‑level defensive phase will be essential, especially from the attackers. He expressed confidence that the team’s quality and the supporters’ expectations will drive a performance worthy of the fans. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining possession to limit Roma’s attacking threats.

Torino will assess Adams and Simeone’s fitness on Tuesday, finalising the line‑up before the match. The coaching staff will review the training session on Tuesday evening to decide the final eleven. A positive result would reinforce the Granata’s progress and give the supporters a much‑needed boost.
