Injuries to Wanner and Veratschnig force the ÖFB to make a substitution
Injuries to Wanner and Veratschnig force the Austrian national team to sit out the upcoming Nations League matches without the two. Both players sustained injuries in the 3‑1 victory over Kosovo and left the ÖFB team camp to return to their clubs. The exact durations of absence are not yet known.
PSV Eindhoven midfielder Paul Wanner suffered an injury to his left foot sole, the ÖFB announced. The diagnosis was made as part of an MRI examination.
Salzburg captain Nikolas Veratschnig sustained a bruise to his right knee. His assessment was also carried out via MRI.
Diagnosis and duration of absence unclear
Both injuries were confirmed by MRI, but the length of the absence remains unknown. The duo is expected to return to the national team only after medical clearance.
LASK director Sascha Horvath received, after a muscle complaint, the report that no structural injuries are present. Thus his training status remains unchanged.
Austria will face Ireland away in the first Nations League window after the home wins against Israel and Kosovo (Thursday, 20:45 Uhr) and will meet Kosovo again (Sunday, 4. October, 18:00 Uhr).
