Immaculate Terryland surface sees Galway’s home debut end in a draw
Galway United and Drogheda United played out a scoreless draw on the Tribesmen’s return home to Eamonn Deacy Park, with the renovated Terryland surface providing a flawless stage for the evening’s tight contest under a sunlit western sky, both sides struggled to break the deadlock.
The newly renovated Terryland pitch was described as immaculate, hosting a tight contest between two clubs positioned towards the lower end of the table on a sunlit evening in the west. Early in the first half Stephen Walsh tested Drogheda’s goalkeeper, forcing Luke Dennison into a save, while Hugo da Cunha had to be alert to palm away a looping effort from Jason Bucknor.
Clear‑cut opportunities were scarce throughout the half, with neither side able to produce the quality needed to unlock the opposing defence. Just before the break, ex‑Tribesman Thomas Oluwa nearly dispossessed da Cunha in front of goal, but the ball rolled out of play, relieving the United keeper.
The second half began in the same vein until Galway United raised the tempo in the final thirty minutes. Substitute Francely Lomboto injected pace, while Stephen Walsh and Ed McCarthy each saw clear chances denied by Luke Dennison.
In the last fifteen minutes Galway earned a penalty after Lomboto was fouled in the area; David Hurley stepped up but his shot sailed over the crossbar. The match remained level as Lee Devitt forced another save from former United shot‑stopper Dennison.
In added time Warren Davis almost nicked a winning goal for the Boynesiders, but the effort did not find the net. The final whistle confirmed a 0‑0 stalemate at Eamonn Deacy Park.
Galway United now travel to Dundalk, while Drogheda United host St Patrick’s Athletic in their next league fixtures.
