Il Mattino announces: Conte one step away from Manchester United

This afternoon, the pages of Il Mattino devoted the front page to Antonio Conte, noting that the former manager of Napoli is one step away from Manchester United. The announcement, placed in the Calciomercato column, immediately sparked discussions among the supporters of the Red Devils.

A look at the current context

After indirectly winking at the Red Devils in his latest interview, Conte would be ready for a new challenge in the Premier League to revive the ambitions of Old Trafford. The news comes at a delicate moment for the English club, which suffered a defeat of 2-0 against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League.

The fate of Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick’s position, already precarious in recent weeks, is now at the bottom after the heavy defeat. The result has been described as the final seal on the worst start to a season for the United in the last forty years.

Napoli collapses at Villarreal: zero points in Champions League and urgent warnings

With the patience of the British hierarchy apparently exhausted, the profile of the Lecce manager has jumped to the top of the wish list for the imminent rebuilding. Fans seem to agree on the name of the Italian coach, considering him the only possible remedy to fix the weaknesses of the English dressing room.

For Conte, it would be a welcome return to England, a league where he already won the title with Chelsea in the 2016‑17 season and the FA Cup the following year. The experience at Tottenham did not bring trophies, but left a deep mark.

The 57‑year‑old is therefore ready to start again immediately after the Napoli experience, whose legacy has been handed over to Massimiliano Allegri, currently struggling with numerous defeats on his record.
