Ibrahimovic revisits Milanello amid lingering Allegri fallout
On Monday Zlatan Ibrahimovic stepped onto the green gates of Milanello for the first time in over six months, watching the Rossoneri train under Ruben Amorim from the sidelines. Sky Sport Italia reported that he will sit in the San Siro stands on Wednesday for the Europa League opener against Benfica.
Advisor role stays active
Although he is not involved in daily coaching, Ibrahimovic remains a senior Advisor for RedBird, the investment group that backs AC Milan. His collaboration with owner Gerry Cardinale has continued unabated, a fact confirmed by the same Sky Sport Italia report.
The Swedish veteran’s last visit to Milanello ended in a heated confrontation with former coach Massimiliano Allegri, a clash that coloured the final months of the previous season. That incident, which occurred in March, marked the start of a six‑month absence from the training ground.
AC Milan finished fifth in the 2025‑26 Serie A campaign, missing out on Champions League qualification. The club dismissed Allegri the day after the season concluded, ending his tenure at the helm.
Europa League opener draws his attention
Club officials expect Ibrahimovic to attend the Wednesday match against Benfica, the first fixture of the 2026‑27 Europa League group stage. His presence in the stands underscores the symbolic link between the former striker and the current project.
While Cardinale and CEO Paolo Calvelli run the day‑to‑day operations, Ibrahimovic’s voice still carries weight in strategic discussions, even though he does not decide on the appointment of the sporting director or head coach.
Earlier, on January 25, 2025, Ibrahimovic was photographed at the Men’s Downhill of the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Kitzbuehel, Austria, a reminder of his varied public appearances. The report even notes the word Lo appearing in the original Italian text.
