Ian Wright warns Arsenal could lose Myles Lewis‑Skelly to Man Utd

Ian Wright warns Arsenal could lose Myles Lewis‑Skelly to Man Utd

Arsenal have sealed a £51 million deal with Aston Villa for centre‑back Ezri Konsa, confirming the Gunners’ intent to keep bolstering their squad as the summer window draws to a close, even as former striker Ian Wright warns that homegrown midfielder Myles Lewis‑Skelly could be tempted by Manchester United or Chelsea.

Arsenal’s summer spending

The Gunners are primed to continue their summer spending after agreeing a £51 million fee with Aston Villa for Ezri Konsa.

Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes have already joined the squad, adding to its quality. Reports claim the Premier League champions are looking to make at least one significant sale before the window closes. The accompanying image carries a Credits note to Frankie OKeeffe/PPAUK.

Myles Lewis‑Skelly’s transfer saga

Speculation has intensified after claims the Hale End Academy graduate has been offered to both Manchester United and Chelsea.

The 19‑year‑old parachuted back into the starting XI at the end of last season in his preferred midfield role.

He featured from the start in Arsenal’s Community Shield win over Manchester City, delivering an eye‑catching performance in the engine room.

Lewis‑Skelly insists he is happy at his boyhood club and is prepared to stay and fight for his place. Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick has refused to rule out a sale should a suitable offer arrive, keeping the rumours alive.

Former striker Ian Wright told Stick to Football that he fears Lewis‑Skelly’s homegrown status could push Arsenal toward a shock sale in the closing weeks of the transfer window. Wright added that the narrative of needing to sell before buying again to balance the books is confusing, especially as the club pursues players like Vinicius Junior. He questioned why Arsenal has not simply stated the midfielder is not for sale, noting the pressure on academy graduates to generate profit.

Wright also highlighted that many Arsenal departures are headed to Turkey, and that the club’s business with intermediaries appears opaque. He referenced other young talents such as Ethan Nwaneri, who is reportedly being considered for a loan rather than a sale. Wright pointed out that Arsenal have already signed Guimaraes and Declan Rice, yet the club’s stance on retaining homegrown players remains baffling.

If a move to Manchester United or Chelsea materialises, Arsenal could lose a versatile midfielder while gaining a substantial fee. For the interested clubs, acquiring a homegrown English talent who has already proven himself in a senior side would bolster their midfield options.
