Ian Wright says £117 million loss leaves Mikel Arteta dissatisfied

Chelsea paid £117 million for Morgan Rogers, the 24‑year‑old forward, a move that left Arsenal legend Ian Wright gutted that Mikel Arteta will not be happy with the club’s summer transfer business.

Chelsea’s summer arrivals

The Premier League champions bolstered their already formidable squad with Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa and Christos Tzolis, all arriving in north London.

The signings underline Chelsea’s intent to reinforce across the pitch after a busy window.

Arsenal’s unfilled forward wish

Arsenal missed out on several of their biggest attacking targets, a shortfall highlighted by their Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in May.

The loss exposed a gap in class between the two sides and prompted the Gunners to pursue an elite forward to close it.

Arsenal explored a move for Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr, who rejected their interest to sign a new contract in the Spanish capital, while Arteta also chased Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, only to find the Argentine holding out for Barcelona.

Wright told Picture:Stick to Football: “It’s not a disastrous window but if I’m Mikel, I wouldn’t be happy with how this window has gone simply because we’ve gone another window where we have not got that forward.”

He added that Arteta had talked about getting a player to take the side to that level and that the club chased Vini “until the end of the earth and left Morgan Rogers dangling.”

After England’s World Cup exit, Chelsea swooped to sign the 24‑year‑old in a huge £117 million deal, with a Chelsea source saying, “If you’re not going to pay it, we’ll pay it.”
