I'll stay at Bayern: Minjae Kim vows to fight for chances
Minjae Kim said “I’ll stay” at a press conference on Monday, confirming his intention to remain with Bayern Munich despite competition. The 29‑year‑old joined the German giants from Napoli in the summer of 2023 and logged 37 competitive appearances, 23 as a starter, as Bayern captured the Bundesliga and DFB Cup.
During Bayern's pre‑season tour of his native South Korea and Hong Kong, the defender was asked about speculation surrounding his future and reiterated his desire to fight for opportunities with the record champions.
Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano currently appear to be Kompany's first‑choice centre‑back pairing, leaving Kim as the third‑choice defender in a crowded back line.
"As a player, just to be with a team like Bayern Munich is a blessing," Kim said. He added that he knows he must work hard, expects the coach to give him many chances, and affirmed, "I think I will stay put."
Kim's comments underline his commitment to Bayern Munich as the club prepares for the new season, despite the strong competition in central defence.
The statement was made on Monday, reinforcing the South Korean's resolve to remain at the German club that he helped lift the Bundesliga and DFB Cup last term.
