Hull City’s £13 million gamble on keeper Tzolakis for Premier League

Hull City have paid a club‑record fee, surpassing the £13 million spent on Ryan Mason in 2016, to sign 23‑year‑old Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis on a five‑year contract, hoping his experience will help the Tigers navigate the Premier League after promotion.

The Tigers pursued Tzolakis to add proven quality and composure, qualities they deem essential after promotion. Hull believes his record in Greek football will translate into resilience against Premier League attackers and strengthen the squad ahead of their top‑flight campaign.

Tzolakis arrived from Olympiacos after being named Greek Super League player of the season for 2024‑25. He amassed 131 appearances for Olympiacos, winning eight trophies including four league titles, and added a UEFA Conference League triumph in 2023‑24.

Internationally, Tzolakis debuted for Greece against Malta shortly after Olympiacos’ European success and has earned nine caps, demonstrating readiness for high‑pressure matches. His international experience is expected to aid the Tigers in coping with the calibre of Premier League forwards.

“I am ready for a new chapter in my career,” Tzolakis said, adding that playing in the Premier League is a challenge he embraces. He pledged to give everything in training to help the team achieve its goals.

Hull view the signing as a statement of ambition, noting the fee eclipses the £13 million paid for Ryan Mason in 2016. The Greek keeper will now compete for the starting spot, with the club expecting his winning pedigree to contribute to their survival bid and showcase his abilities in England’s premier competition.
