Hull City reassures after Sorba Thomas flips car on Friday
Wales international Sorba Thomas overturned his Land Rover Defender near Hull City’s Cottingham training ground on Friday morning, but the Premier League winger escaped injury. The club confirmed he is totally unscathed and will travel with the squad for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.
Details of the crash
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at about 9am, with fire engines and police attending the narrow residential street. Images on social media showed the Defender lying upside down beside the road. The crash happened close to the club’s training facilities.
Club response
Hull City issued a statement confirming that Thomas was unharmed after the road‑traffic accident near the Cottingham training ground. The Premier League club reiterated that he is "totally unscathed" and will join his teammates for the upcoming match.
Sergej Jakirovic was photographed at the scene, confirming the club’s immediate involvement. He later praised Thomas, describing him as a left‑winger who can also operate as a left‑sided number 10 with good delivery and set‑piece ability.
Thomas joined Hull from Stoke on deadline day and made his debut in last week’s draw with Aston Villa. Jakirovic had already spoken highly of him on Thursday, saying he “made a difference in the Championship at Stoke”.
Hull's upcoming challenge
The Tigers are set to return to Premier League action at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon against Chelsea. Jakirovic joked that stopping the “free‑scoring Blues” would be simple if they could “kick them”, but warned the match will be a demanding test.
