Hugh Jackman’s bid could reshape Norwich City’s Championship future

Hugh Jackman’s bid could reshape Norwich City’s Championship future

Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman, the 57‑year‑old Sydney‑born Wolverine, has confirmed he is in talks to acquire a minority stake in the Championship side Norwich City, the English club he has supported since childhood, after previously turning down a similar offer in 2010. He told he is “very, very interested” and is already discussing the potential investment with club officials.

Family ties and lifelong fandom

Jackman’s mother, Grace, was born in Norwich, giving the actor a personal connection to the Canaries. He grew up watching the FA Cup with his English parents and chose Norwich as his team after his mother pointed out the local side. “I’m very, very interested and am talking about it right now,” he said, confirming his devotion.

He has visited Carrow Road on several occasions and praised manager Philippe Clement, saying “Fantastic” and insisting he has no intention of replacing the French gaffer if he joins the board. Jackman believes the club’s recent turnaround shows “the season’s just begun”.

In 2010 Jackman was invited to become a minority investor but declined, later calling the decision a “big mistake”. He recalled receiving a letter about a year ago asking if the “huge Norwich City fan” wanted to be a celebrity investor, which he initially rejected.

Hollywood rivalry and wider investor trend

If the deal goes through, Jackman could face co‑star Ryan Reynolds, who co‑owns Championship rivals Wrexham, setting up a high‑profile Hollywood derby. Reynolds, a Vancouver native, shares the club with fellow actor Rob McElhenney.

Jackman’s move joins a growing list of celebrity owners: Ed Sheeran holds a 1.4 per cent stake in Ipswich, while Delia Smith and Michael Wynn‑Jones retain a 10 per cent share of Norwich after 28 years of leadership that ended in 2024. The club’s ownership also includes an 85 per cent holding by American businessman Mark Attanasio, a further 5 per cent held by independent fans, and the potential impact of new celebrity capital.

Norwich currently sit 20th in the Championship after three defeats in their opening four games. The Canaries aim to improve their league position, with Jackman predicting both Norwich and Wrexham will secure promotion to the Premier League this season.
