Højbjerg chooses Marseille despite AC Milan's €15m offer

While rumors swept across Europe, both in England and Italy, the Danish international midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg confirmed his decision to stay at Olympique de Marseille, citing family reasons despite the ongoing interest from Newcastle and AC Milan.

Club finances and ambitions

Olympique de Marseille's financial difficulties worsened this summer, the club having been unable to strengthen its squad and having failed to qualify for the Champions League. Bruno Genesio started the season with a very limited squad, and he could find himself even more constrained when the campaign ends in nine months.

For its part, AC Milan has not abandoned the idea of signing Højbjerg. According to Calcio Mercato and other Italian media, the Lombardy club is considering an offer next January, worth €15 million. The Rossoneri manager, Ruben Amorim, highlights the Danish player's leadership and extensive experience, aged 31.

This contrast between the player's family stability and the financial ambitions of the two clubs shows that Højbjerg's decision is driven more by personal factors than market pressure.
