Hoeneß reveals explosive Eberl secret – Reason for work climate

Honorary President Uli Hoeneß revealed a long‑kept Eberl secret on the sidelines of the event marking the 80‑year anniversary of FC Bayern Basketball: After years of dissatisfaction, the relationship with sporting director Max Eberl has fundamentally changed, which explains the current harmonious working atmosphere at the record champion.

Sporting Resurrection of the Record Champion

The main reason is that the record champion is once again fully at the top athletically and has rediscovered its long‑feared dominance as well as its self‑understanding. For some time now a harmonious working climate and calmness have returned to the club, noticeably relieving the players and the coaching staff. This development reflects the current era, in which the team consistently delivers good performances and the environment is free of tensions.

Vincent Kompany Shapes the Playing Idea

This is partly due to head coach Vincent Kompany, who has the star‑filled squad fully under control and pursues a clear playing idea based on quick ball possession and aggressive pressing. Kompany places great emphasis on every player understanding the tactical instructions and implementing them consistently, which makes the team appear more compact overall. Through his leadership the entire team becomes more focused and the attacking power is further increased.

Max Eberl: Change Behind the Scenes

On the other hand, the network of power‑brokers in the background plays a decisive role by managing squad composition and strategic direction.

Sporting director Max Eberl has fundamentally changed his way of working after a difficult start and is now better integrated into the club’s structure, which strengthens the trust of the management level.

Hoene, another official, is mentioned in the context, while Hoeneß emphasizes that Eberl previously led a lone‑wolf existence, which the club did not like.

Even before the DFB Cup final against VfB Stuttgart last May, Eberl’s future was uncertain, as the club’s leadership was not satisfied with his previous approach. Hoeneß quantified the chances of a contract extension at the time as 60 percent to 40 percent, a ratio that clearly highlighted the uncertainty. In July, during the training camp at Tegernsee, the assessment rose to 100 percent after Eberl had markedly improved his way of working. In the same year this case marked the final decision in favour of Eberl and solidified the new trust relationship.

Hoeneß explained that a statement of 80 percent on that day would have been “between pest and cholera” and would have provoked more discontent, which is why he chose the cautious 60‑40 assessment. He emphasized that the current working climate is characterised by calmness and that open communication within the club now works significantly better. Through this clear line, internal tensions have been reduced and the foundation for long‑term success has been created.

With the now stable relationship between Hoeneß, Eberl and Kompany, FC Bayern Munich looks confidently to the upcoming season and aims to build on the regained dominance. Fans can expect the team to continue fighting for titles under this harmonious leadership.
