Hoefkens' frustration over €9m signing strains NAC Breda

Coach Carl Hoefkens has openly criticised forward Kamal Sowah, who has not featured for NAC Breda this season despite training with the squad, after the Ghanaian was bought for roughly nine million euros by Club Brugge in 2021. The situation has left Hoefkens visibly frustrated and has sparked tension within the club.

Hoefkens has voiced strong criticism of Kamal Sowah over the past few days. The coach says the forward's attitude is harming squad harmony.

Frustration over Sowah's absence

Sowah has not taken the field for NAC Breda this season, and his trainer claims he is unable to play despite participating in training sessions. The lack of match action has become a point of contention.

Hoefkens appears visibly troubled by the situation, arguing that Sowah positions himself above the team. He believes this behaviour undermines collective effort.

Last season, Sowah was a regular starter for NAC Breda, but he failed to feature at the start of the new campaign. The abrupt change has raised questions about his role.

Although the former Club Brugge striker trains with the NAC squad, his presence on the training ground fuels Hoefkens' frustration. The coach finds the circumstance irritating.

Expensive signing that hasn't delivered

"Those are the kind of very irritating things that can happen and that is also enormously difficult for me," Hoefkens told . He expressed how the issue affects him personally.

Hoefkens explained his main concern, saying, "I don't like it when players place themselves above the team and that is happening now in a certain way." He added that he also has some understanding, making the situation tricky.

Club Brugge paid roughly nine million euros for the Ghanaian in 2021, ranking him among the club's most expensive acquisitions. Despite the fee, Sowah never secured a breakthrough in Belgium and remains under contract at NAC while missing matches this season.
