Hiddink: Dutch coach vacancy stays open after poor World Cup

Former Dutch manager Guus Hiddink said the Netherlands (Oranje) delivered a sub‑standard performance at the World Cup and that the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) must now search for a new national team coach, noting that Arne Slot remains available at the moment.

He argued the team's display fell below expectations and did not reflect the country's footballing standards.

The KNVB, facing the vacancy, is tasked with appointing a successor to the outgoing coach.

"There are options. The KNVB must decide for itself. There is a lot of speculation," Hiddink said.

"I have no responsibility towards the national coach, so Arne Slot is free," he added.

"Peter Bosz will not do it," Hiddink continued, ruling out that candidate.

He urged the federation to think carefully before making a decision, emphasizing the need for a considered choice.

The Dutch football authority now faces the task of naming a successor to lead Oranje forward.
