Hibernian secure Wales winger Matondo as Reedijk's first signing

Wales winger Rabbi Matondo has signed for Hibernian on a contract that runs until the end of the current season, with an option to extend for a further year. The 26‑year‑old made his final Rangers appearance in January 2025 and arrived at Easter Road after a trial period.

Reedijk's first signing

New manager Marink Reedijk, who replaced David Gray last month, confirmed Matondo as his inaugural signing. Reedijk praised the winger’s attitude, saying he made an immediate impression during the La Manga training camp and showed a strong willingness to learn and adapt.

Career path and experience

Matondo left Norway’s Brann in August after a five‑month spell and previously spent nearly four years at Ibrox, including a loan stint at Hannover. He has also featured for Schalke, Stoke City and Cercle Brugge. Of his 70 Rangers appearances, about two thirds were in the Scottish Premiership and eight goals were scored, all but one in the top flight, one of which came against Hibs.

Internationally, Matondo has earned 15 caps for Wales, the most recent of which came last year. His sole international goal arrived in 2025 during a 3‑1 win over Kazakhstan.

Reedijk believes the winger adds pace, directness and a threatening presence on the flanks, while also bringing a positive personality to the dressing room. He promises a “brave and intense” Hibernian side and expects Matondo to settle quickly and make an impact.
