Hertha’s next exit: Gustav Christensen heads to Norway
The next Hertha‑Abgang looms for 21‑year‑old Gustav Christensen, who Stefan Leitl says never showed the Durchsetzungskraft required to cement a place at Hertha BSC. After a loan of knapp 17 Monate at FC Ingolstadt, the former Flügelspieler is now set for a move to Norway with Kristiansund BK.
During the loan, the club converted him from a Flügelspieler into a Linksverteidiger. That positional shift gave him defensive experience that would have been useful for Hertha in Berlin. Zur Zeit he operated mainly as a Linksverteidiger.
In the current Sommervorbereitung for the new Saison, trainer Stefan Leitl examined the 21‑year‑old more closely, having not met him before. Leitl concluded that further collaboration would not continue.
Norwegian move and Hertha’s cash‑flow
reports Christensen will join Kristiansund BK in Norway, with the club paying a small Ablösesumme for his right foot. The fee will add to the Vereinskassen of the financially strained Hertha, making it the 15th departure this window. The Ziel of the move is to give the player regular first‑team football in Norway.
This summer Hertha embarked on a Sparkurs and a major Kaderumbruch, seeing many players leave Berlin. Christensen’s exit follows that pattern, marking another player removed from the Gehaltsliste. The club has already secured three new signings for the season.
Hertha’s summer signings and squad outlook
Oluwaseun Adewumi arrived on loan from FC Burnley and Farid Alfa‑Ruprecht on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, both without purchase options. Mads Pedersen was bought from FC Augsburg on a contract running to 2027 with an option for an additional year, a model previously used for Josip Brekalo. Pedersen’s arrival filled the left‑back vacancy left by Zeefuik’s suspension.
The transfer window remains open until Tuesday evening, allowing further moves in both directions. Leon Jensen, another player who failed to establish himself, is expected to leave for a Zweitligist. Meanwhile, Linus Gechter’s future is uncertain; although trainer Stefan Leitl calls him “unverkäuflich”, discussions continue.
With Pedersen in place, Hertha has largely solved the Linksverteidiger gap, a position previously covered by Deyovaisio Zeefuik, who was suspended by the DFB for the next two league games. The club is still searching for a tall Mittelstürmer with finishing quality. Two additional signings are still targeted to strengthen other areas.
