Hertha’s intensity and a fantastic first half spark 4‑1 triumph

Shaking Köpfe with a Grinsen im Gesicht, the Berliner launched an intense first half that saw Hertha BSC crush 1. FC Heidenheim 4‑1 at the Olympiastadion in their opening home match of the season. The early onslaught produced three goals before the Halbzeit, setting the tone for a dominant performance.

Early onslaught and key contributors

In the first half, Sebastian Grönning opened the scoring with a Flugkopfball after a Marten Winkler pass in the second minute. About 25 minutes later Winkler added a beautiful long‑range strike from 25 metres, and Deyovaisio Zeefuik capped the half with a lob, all after the same assist from Winkler. The Berliner’s three‑goal burst demonstrated the Intensität promised by coach Stefan Leitl.

Coach’s vision and second‑half adjustments

Stefan Leitl entered the Partie with an unchanged Startelf, declaring before kickoff that he expected the team to play with intensity and to go for three points. After the break Heidenheim made four substitutions, a move that puzzled trainer Frank Schmidt, who admitted he could not explain the decision. The second half saw Jan Schöppner score four minutes after the restart, narrowing the margin to 1‑3.

Julian Eitschberger reflected on the match, saying “Ich bin unglaublich zufrieden. Und wir haben in der Zeit gezeigt, dass wir das Spiel durchziehen können.” He noted that the high temperatures did not distract the team, adding “Heute haben wir bei den Temperaturen genau das gemacht.”

The victory marks the second success of the season after the Auftaktspiel against VfL Bochum, adding another Ausrufezeichen for the Alte Dame. It is the first time in sieben Jahren that the Berlinern have secured two Siege at the beginning of a new Spielzeit.

Hertha’s home record in the 2. Bundesliga has been modest, with only 18 Siege in 51 Zweitligapartien at the Stadion. The 41.459 fans in attendance witnessed a performance that could change that trend, as the team aims to give Vollgas in every Heimspiel.

Looking ahead, Hertha travels to Saarbrücken for the first round of the DFB‑Pokal next weekend, before returning to the league for an away clash with Eintracht Braunschweig. Whether the team can continue this Erfolgsserie remains to be seen.
