Heat collapse: Jamal Musiala falls as Bayern Munich face RB Leipzig

Jamal Musiala collapsed on the pitch during Bayern Munich's game against RB Leipzig on Saturday, prompting teammate Ismael Saibari to catch him as the 23‑year‑old appeared unsteady in the intense heat.

The Telekom Cup Final moved into its final five minutes when temperatures rose to 33 degrees Celsius, and Musiala, who had just scored Bayern's third goal in a 3‑1 win, began to wobble and look disoriented while waiting for play to restart.

Heat and the Telekom Cup Final

As the heat intensified, Musiala struggled to maintain his balance, prompting immediate concern from the crowd and his teammates. Getty images captured the moment he fell in stages, and the incident unfolded under the watchful eyes of the German audience.

Teammates rush to aid Musiala

Ismael Saibari quickly reached Musiala, helping him lie down on the grass, while Joshua Kimmich also rushed over to assist. Bayern Munich’s medical team then charged onto the field to provide treatment, with Getty photographers documenting the frantic scene.

Medical assessment and upcoming fixtures

After a few minutes, the medical staff confirmed Musiala was okay, allowing him to stand, receive a standing ovation and be clapped off the pitch as fans chanted his name. Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer said, “It will become clear what it was. But of course we are keeping our fingers crossed.”

Sporting director Max Eberl later told the media, “The most important thing, he’s doing well!” Reports indicated Musiala complained of dizziness and circulatory problems caused by the heat, and he is expected to rest in the coming days. The incident leaves him a doubt for Bayern Munich’s DFL Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund next weekend and the league opener against Stuttgart on Friday, August 28.
