Hazard repeatedly turned PSG back despite Champions League dreams

Eden Hazard confirmed that Paris Saint‑Germain, during his seven‑year spell at Chelsea, repeatedly tried to sign him, but the Belgian turned it down each time because he only wanted to return to Lille in France. He emphasized that his bond with the club where he began his professional career was stronger than the offer from the Parisian team.

Hazard explained that PSG had repeatedly contacted him over several years. The Belgian winger said he had rejected every transfer offer because he did not want to play for any French club other than Lille.

"They often wanted to sign me. I did not want to return to the French league and play there for a club other than Lille. I always turned them down. For me it was clear," Hazard said in 2019 in an interview with L’Équipe.

PSG's repeated contact attempts

The Parisian club, which regularly vies for Champions League titles, was eager to acquire Hazard. Despite the prospect of European success, Hazard stated that a move to PSG was not part of his plans.

Hazard's bond with Lille

In 2011 he helped Lille win the French league title and the cup before moving to Chelsea in 2012. There he spent seven seasons and developed into one of the team's biggest stars.

In an interview with RMC in February 2026, Hazard said that his goal after Chelsea had been a move to Real Madrid, which became reality in 2019. Four years later he ended his career, showing that personal loyalty was more important to him than a possible transfer to PSG.
