Venue details and line‑ups
The match was played at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, under a cloudy sky and a temperature of 20 °C with 86 % humidity. Como lined up in a 4‑2‑3‑1 and Leipzig in a 4‑3‑3, although the Germans started without Reitz, Baumgartner or Ouédraogo. Both teams began the competition with zero points, which heightened the anticipation for Matchday 1 of the Groups.
From the centre, Nico Paz masterfully distributes the ball, finding his teammate on the run to finish the move with precision. In the 54th minute, Diao scored the third goal for Como, striking expertly and leaving the score at 3‑0. Nusa performed a dribble and Raum set the play in motion, while the referee cautioned Paz again.
The second half began with Como maintaining its advantage, the score standing at 2‑0 at the start of the second period. Willi Orbán sent a long ball, but Diao attempted a dribble that was intercepted by Lukeba. The German side tried to create space, without managing to breach the Italian defence.
Leipzig tried to react by pressing in the centre, but Baturina recovered the ball and generated a new chance. Marc Guiu tried to get past Diao, while L Da Cunha struck with his left foot and the opposing goalkeeper deflected the shot. The lack of accuracy limited the visitor’s options.
The final score was 3‑0 in favour of Como, consolidating a dominant performance in the first half and a solid defence in the second. Leipzig will need to show a completely new side in the upcoming matches if they want to overturn the deficit.
The contrast between Como’s overwhelming possession and Leipzig’s limited effectiveness reveals the need for tactical adjustments by the German side, while the Italian club celebrates a promising start in the Champions League.
