Harry Kane stays restrained on the Ballon d’Or – no self‑promotion

In the discussion about the World Footballer award, Harry Kane, striker for FC Bayern Munich, emphasizes that he continues to eschew offensive self‑promotion and frames the goal of being the best player in the world only as a wish.

In an interview with the French TV channel TF1 he said: “Yes, it is a goal to be the best player in the world. That would be a wonderful feeling.” This underscores his ambition without pushing himself into the spotlight.

Candidates for the Ballon d’Or

Kane lists numerous contenders: “Mbappé, Dembélé, Yamal, Rodri – all top players.” He adds that Michael Olise, after a great season and a strong World Cup, is also in the conversation and that the vote will be “very exciting,” because “this year anything is possible.”

The English international stresses that he makes no claim to the trophy, unlike Kylian Mbappé or Lamine Yamal, and describes the Ballon d’Or as “the greatest individual award, it is something special.”

His personal philosophy puts the team above the individual. He wants to “be remembered as someone who puts the team above everything and respects his teammates,” and stresses that no player is bigger than his team, his club or his country.

In the previous season, Kane broke the 100 Bundesliga‑goal mark faster than anyone else in the 7‑0 (3‑0) victory over Union Berlin and scored 61 goals in 51 league matches for FC Bayern Munich. With the Bavarians he won the double and reached the Champions League semi‑final.

“The previous season will always hold a special place in my heart,” he said. “Scoring so many goals, netting important goals for Bayern and England – it was the season in which I won the most titles of my career.” Among the 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or are also players such as Ousmane Dembélé (Paris Saint‑Germain), Lamine Yamal (FC Barcelona) and Lautaro Martínez (Inter Milan).
