Harry Kane’s Golden Shoe fuels chase of Messi and Ronaldo
Inside the Bayern Museum, tucked within the Allianz Arena, a hushed crowd watched 33‑year‑old Harry Kane step onto the stage on Wednesday 19 August. The Bayern Munich striker was presented with the European Bota de Oro, having finished the 2025/26 Bundesliga season with 36 goals in 31 games.
European scoring race
Kane’s 36 goals in 31 league matches made him the highest scorer across Europe’s top leagues for the 2025/26 season.
Erling Haaland trailed with 26 goals for Manchester City to claim the Silver Shoe, while Kylian Mbappé’s 25 strikes for Real Madrid earned him Bronze.
Bayern Munich secured the Bundesliga title, with Kane’s tally a key factor in the triumph.
This is Kane’s second Bota de Oro, having first won it in the 2023/24 season while also at Bayern. He now aims for a third award, a feat achieved only by Lionel Messi, who holds six, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who holds four. Only two players have surpassed two Golden Shoes, placing Kane among an elite group of eleven.

Bundesliga president Marc Lenz praised Kane, stating, “Harry Kane elevates the Bundesliga wonderfully, both on and off the pitch.” Lenz added that winning the Bota de Oro twice in three years “shows his world‑class class.”
Super Cup focus
Despite the accolade, Kane said his mind is already on Saturday’s German Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund. He described the upcoming clash as his next challenge with Bayern.
The Bota de Oro is awarded by the European Sports Media using a points system that has weighted goals from major leagues since the 1996/97 season. Goals in the top European leagues receive two points each, while those in other competitions are valued lower. The award is officially known as “La Bota de Oro,” reflecting its Spanish terminology.
With two trophies, Kane joins a select group of eleven players, and a third would place him directly behind Messi and Ronaldo in the all‑time Golden Shoe rankings.
Kane also finished the recent World Cup with six goals in seven matches, underscoring his consistent scoring record. He reiterated his desire to keep improving, noting, “My goal is always to improve. Obviously, last year was incredible, but I still know there are aspects of my game I can improve.”
