Harry Kane Man Utd see Bayern Munich breakthrough on England striker

German club Bayern Munich have reportedly reached a breakthrough in talks with England striker Harry Kane over a new contract, a development that threatens Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s plan to bring the forward to Old Trafford, according to a German media report dated 5 October.

Ratcliffe's pursuit of Kane

TEAMtalk revealed in August that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the INEOS chief and Manchester United co-owner, is a big fan of Kane and wants the former Tottenham Hotspur striker to join the club. The outlet said Ratcliffe’s ambition is to secure a transfer that would see Kane swap the Bundesliga for the Premier League.

Bayern's contract talks

Kane, who is 33 years old, will be out of contract at Bayern Munich at the end of the season, and the German champions have been negotiating a fresh deal for several months. Bayern have long aimed to keep the world‑class striker, and the latest reports suggest a contract could run until 2029.

Kane himself has recently stated he is happy at Bayern and wants to stay with the Bundesliga champions, underscoring his contentment despite external interest.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg posted on X at 5:02 pm on 5 October that there is an “EXCLUSIVE breakthrough in principle” between Kane and Bayern. He added that negotiations are now moving in the final direction and that a new deal is planned until 2029 for the 33‑year‑old Ballon d’Or favourite.

The proposed agreement reportedly includes salary and bonus terms that have already been settled, leaving only the contract length and a potential release clause to be finalised.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano echoed the optimism on the Here We Go Podcast, saying all financial figures are agreed and the deal is close to completion. He noted that discussions now focus on the contract’s duration and a release‑clause detail, and mentioned a special clause that would have allowed a move back to England in 2025 or 2026, which Kane declined.

If Bayern finalise the contract, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s quest to bring Kane to Old Trafford could suffer a significant setback, leaving Manchester United to reassess their transfer strategy.
