Harry Kane GAME stalls Man Utd as Bayern Munich push breakthrough
Manchester United’s slim hopes of landing Harry Kane have dwindled as Bayern Munich claim a major breakthrough on a new contract, according to a reliable German journalist, with the England striker out of contract at the end of the season and Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen to bring him to Old Trafford.
Man Utd's 2027 target
TEAMtalk’s transfer insider Graeme Bailey reported on August 10 that Man Utd want to sign England international striker Kane in 2027. The report highlighted the co‑owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s determination to lure the former Tottenham Hotspur forward to the Red Devils. It underscored the club’s long‑term planning ahead of the next transfer window.
Bayern were confident earlier that Kane would sign a new deal and extend his stay at the Allianz Arena. Their optimism was echoed by a German journalist who said the club had already begun talks with the striker’s representatives. This confidence suggested the Bavarians were preparing for a seamless continuation of his Bundesliga career.
Bayern's contract breakthrough
Over the weekend, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported that Kane was edging closer to a new deal with Bayern. On his YouTube channel he said the salary was ready and that final details, including contract length and release‑clause matters, were being clarified. Romano added that the negotiations were progressing “day by day, week by week”.
Romano further said on Monday that there is confidence Kane will put pen to paper on a new deal with Bayern. He noted that the financial terms had already been agreed, leaving only contractual nuances to resolve.
The Italian journalist on the Here We Go Podcast maintained optimism, stating that salary and bonuses were settled between Bayern and Kane. He explained that discussions now focus on the contract length and a potential release clause, noting a special clause that could have activated in January for a move back to England in 2025 or 2026, which Kane had not exercised.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed there has been a “breakthrough in principle” between Kane and Bayern, describing it as bad news for Man Utd. Writing on X on October 5, he announced a new contract planned until 2029 for the 33‑year‑old world‑class striker and Ballon d’Or favourite, with the last details being clarified and no signing date set.
With negotiations moving in the final direction, Bayern Munich appear poised to retain the England striker, leaving Manchester United’s pursuit increasingly uncertain. The Red Devils must now reassess their strategy as the window for securing Kane narrows.
