Hamann warns against Wirtz's poor start at Liverpool

In the Munich conference room, Dietmar Hamann, former international, looks concerned at the young Florian Wirtz, who has been underperforming at Liverpool for a year. The former professional, who himself played for the English club, speaks of a "big misunderstanding" between the club and the 23‑year‑old international.

Hamann's criticism and the upcoming internationals

Hamann emphasizes that he is particularly interested in Wirtz' performances in the jersey of the German national team. He warns that if the slump at Liverpool continues, the "safety line" could be pulled. The former Liverpool‑player criticizes that Wirtz too rarely makes the difference in the final third.

Lothar Matthäus, record‑international, advises Wirtz to confront the remaining problems and bite the bullet. Despite these voices, Wirtz will not feature in the first two internationals against the Netherlands on Thursday and Greece three days later.

The young attacking player was part of the second tranche of the XXL‑squad that the new national team coach Jürgen Klopp has selected. Thus he is available for the matches against Serbia on 1. October and Greece on 4. October.

Wirtz moved a year ago for around 125 million euros from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool, but so far has not lived up to the high expectations at Anfield Road.
