Guimaraes hails Rice as 'unbelievable' after Arsenal's Bayern comeback
Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes praised England international Declan Rice as “unbelievable” after the Gunners salvaged a 2‑2 draw at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena. Rice’s 82nd‑minute equaliser kept Arsenal’s unbeaten start in the Champions League, and Guimaraes said he is enjoying life at the club.
Versatility and manager’s vision
Guimaraes arrived from Newcastle in a £75 million deal and has quickly formed a solid partnership with Rice. The 28‑year‑old Brazilian highlighted how the England midfielder helps him on the pitch.
He added that Rice can operate as a six, an eight or a ten, fitting the manager’s plan to get the best out of the side. “Today I played more as a six, he plays more as an eight,” Guimaraes explained.
Guimaraes also enjoyed linking with fellow midfielders Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze, describing a pass from Rice to Eze as “unbelievable”. He said playing alongside such talent makes his time at Arsenal rewarding.
From rivals to teammates
During their Newcastle days the two had several fair tussles, Guimaraes recalled. “I was not nice to him when we played against each other, he was not nice to me. But now we are nice to each other and try to help each other on the pitch,” he said.
Key moments at the Allianz Arena
In the second half Guimaraes headed towards goal, only for Manuel Neuer to produce a world‑class save. Harry Kane then converted a penalty to make it 2‑1 before Rice struck in the 82nd minute to level the match.
Guimaraes described Neuer’s intervention as “an unbelievable save”, saying he was already celebrating when the German keeper tipped the ball away. The Brazilian called the moment a highlight of what he called “an unbelievable game for someone who loves football”.
After the final whistle Guimaraes asked Rice how he had saved the header. Rice replied, “I still don’t know how I saved it! He’s an unbelievable keeper for me, one of the best in the world.”
Guimaraes praised the standard of the Champions League, noting that a draw is acceptable but the team still wants to win. He reminded supporters that Arsenal host Everton on Saturday and must be strong at home to chase the Premier League title again.
