Guimaraes' debut goal lifts Arsenal's streak while Sunderland eye Europa debut
Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on the 12th, with Bruno Guimaraes opening the scoring – his first goal since joining the Gunners – and Bukayo Saka sealing the win from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
Arsenal's decisive moments
The first half remained deadlocked until the 55th minute when Enzo Le Fée's penalty was expertly saved by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. The save preserved a goalless half‑time and set the tone for the second period.
Three minutes later, Bruno Guimaraes, who had entered the match at the start of the second half, struck from just outside the penalty area. His right‑footed shot curled into the top‑right corner, marking his debut goal for Arsenal.
Later, a vertical pass from Guimaraes found Bukayo Saka breaking into the box, where he was brought down. The resulting penalty was taken by Saka himself, who converted in the seventh minute of added time to complete the scoring.
Arsenal kept a clean sheet, thanks in part to Raya's earlier heroics, and celebrated their fourth consecutive Premier League win. The club now turns its attention to a Carabao Cup third‑round tie against Ipswich on the 15th, followed by an away league match at Brighton on the 19th.
Sunderland's setbacks and future tests
Sunderland were unable to find the net despite periods of pressure, and saw defender Heinied Mandava receive a second yellow card, resulting in his dismissal before full‑time.
Looking ahead, Sunderland will make their Europa League group‑stage debut against AZ on the 16th, before travelling to face Manchester City on the 20th in the Premier League.
