Guardiola's salary demand rattles Italy, federation eyes Conte
In a dramatic turn today, Pep Guardiola set aside a first offer from the Italian federation, saying the €10 million per‑year salary did not meet his expectations, and the Italians have already identified a plan B.
The Italian federation confirmed that talks are ongoing with Guardiola, who sits at the top of their wish list and has received a formal proposal.
The offer on the table amounts to ten million euros annually, while the Spaniard is reportedly aiming for roughly double that figure, meaning both sides will need to compromise.
Uncertain whether Guardiola will accept, the federation has also examined an alternative in Antonio Conte, who left Napoli after the previous season and is currently without a club.
Conte previously coached Italy from 2014 to 2016, guiding the side to qualification for the European Championship during that spell.
The identification of a backup plan underscores the federation’s preparation for upcoming challenges, with Conte’s experience offering a familiar option should negotiations with Guardiola stall.
