Gravina: absurd to appoint commissioner to Federcalcio after Torino

Gabriele Gravina, deputy vice‑president of the Italian Football Federation, called the idea of a federation takeover “absurd”, while celebrating the awarding of the Conference League final to Turin, a decision taken by UEFA on the same day he was in Thessaloniki for the Executive Committee.

The official emphasized that the choice is “an excellent result for Italian football”, adding that he personally promoted the Juventus Stadium bid as president of the FIGC. “The awarding of the Conference League final to Turin is an excellent result for Italian football, which I was particularly keen on because I was the one who launched the Juventus Stadium bid as president of the FIGC,” he said.

Presence in Thessaloniki and contact with ANSA

On the day of the announcement, Gravina was engaged in Thessaloniki, where he participates in the Executive Committee of the continental body, and he answered ANSA’s call to comment on the progress of national sport policy. His presence in Greece highlights the importance the office places on the management of European competitions.

During the conversation, he reiterated his role on the foreign front, also mentioning the commitment to UEFA’s Euro 2032. “On the foreign front – including UEFA Euro 2032 – I am active with the Italian Football Federation to achieve prestigious results; unfortunately I read about continuous attacks,” he said.

Defense of the Italian Football Federation and calls for respect

Gravina criticised the recurring attacks that, in his view, undermine the federation’s autonomy, recalling the case of the registration of his successor Giovanni Malagò. “It is absurd just to think of a takeover of the Italian Football Federation for the reasons I have read,” he continued.

The vice‑president concluded by demanding more respect for the Italian Football Federation, for its president Malagò and for the body’s members, arguing that the credibility of Italian football must be defended against attempts at field‑invasion.

In summary, Gravina linked the Turin event to a broader international growth strategy, reiterating the need to protect the federation’s independence and reputation.
