Gravenberch signs contract for League duel with Liverpool midfield
Alexis Mac Allister said during the press conference for the Champions League tie against Atlético Madrid that he has not yet received a contract extension from Liverpool, while fellow midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have been given a new contract.
The Argentine expressed his disappointment, saying: “There was an opportunity to leave. As everyone knows, I received the news that the club did not have the resources to offer me a new contract. That makes me very sad.” He emphasized that he gives one hundred percent for Liverpool, every day in training and matches.
New contracts for Gravenberch and Szoboszlai
Mac Allister continued: “Then I see that Dominik (Szoboszlai) and Ryan (Gravenberch) are getting a new contract. I’m happy about that, because they deserve it. But at the same time it also makes me sad, because I’m not getting the same.” The two young midfielders have now secured an extended commitment with the club.
Mac Allister's current contract runs until the summer of 2028. He stated: “There is still plenty of time for a new contract. I will give everything until my last day here. We will see what happens. There were options to make a transfer, but I think I am currently at the right club.”
Liverpool fears losing its defensive star before Manchester City clash
When asked why he did not receive a new contract, he replied: “There really wasn’t a reason given. The conversation was also not directly with me, but with my agent. I don’t want to say anything inaccurate, but they told him that they were not in a position to hand out a contract. We will see what happens in the future.”
Mac Allister reported that he had an opportunity to leave in the summer and that clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester City had shown interest, but he chose to stay because he believes that Liverpool under Andoni Iraola can achieve “something special” this season.
Although he started this season as a substitute, he earned a starting place in the last two matches, at the expense of Gravenberch, who, according to the club, is at risk of falling out of Iraola’s inner circle.
