Grava Favasuli praised as model, he says Nazionale Voglio for Vergara
Gianluca Grava, head of Napoli’s youth sector, told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli as part of the Ultime notizie calcio Napoli programme that Costantino Favasuli could become a benchmark for the academy, while he insisted Antonio Vergara deserves a call‑up to the national side. He also highlighted the potential of Milton Pereyra and Mattia Esposito.
Favasuli as a youth role model
Grava praised Costantino Favasuli as a template for the academy. He said Favasuli has carved a place with the right attitude, showing hunger, desire and sacrifice, and has made the most of his opportunity. The former player added that seeing the number‑two shirt, once worn by his idol Bruscolotti, moved him emotionally.
He explained that, beyond natural technical gifts, youngsters from ten years old onward must adopt a mentality of constant sacrifice and give ‘a thousand per cent’. Dialogue with coaches and understanding each player’s character are essential, he said. The level required to reach Napoli’s first team, he warned, leaves little room for complacency.
Grava noted that difficult moments, such as being left out by a coach, are where a young footballer’s character is forged. He stressed that technical skill must be paired with a willingness to help the team. Only when both are present can a player progress.

Vergara and other prospects
Regarding Antonio Vergara, Grava declared “Vergara merita la Nazionale” and expressed hope that the forward will be called up to the Nazionale. He highlighted Vergara’s technical quality and the right mentality that have prepared him for that step. Grava concluded by wishing him genuine success.
On Milton Pereyra, Grava said the club has taken a young talent with great potential and the correct attitude to improve. He believes Pereyra is on the right path and could soon make a name for himself as a professional. The coach’s confidence reflects the academy’s belief in his future.
For Mattia Esposito, Grava approved the decision to send him to play in the important city of Bari, calling it a suitable developmental route. He believes the experience can be an excellent training ground for the youngster. The move, he added, aligns with the club’s broader youth strategy.
Grava also mentioned that the Primavera side currently features many players born in 2009. The objective, he said, is to build something more than merely returning Napoli to the Primavera 1 championship. He underscored the long‑term vision of nurturing home‑grown talent.
