Godts' first start at PSG draws criticism after a disappointing debut

Mika Godts, the young Belgian taken over from Ajax, earned his first start for Paris Saint-Germain against Le Mans, but the high expectations were quickly eclipsed by a disappointing performance that French media harshly condemned. The team did win 3-1, but Godts' time on the pitch did not make a positive contribution.

Start and quick substitution

After six substitute appearances, coach Luis Enrique gave Godts the chance to start on Saturday. After 59 minutes, the winger was replaced by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Kvaratskhelia provided the second goal two minutes later, bringing the score to 2-1. The quick change of play still kept the match in PSG's favour.

Media and critical reactions

Les Parisien described Godts' debut as ‘utterly disappointing’, noting that he failed to control the opponent, made poor decisions and suffered a lot of ball loss. The newspaper added that he could not make a difference at any moment and often slowed down PSG's play.

The site labeled the performance as ‘particularly disappointing’ and stated that Godts currently lacks the confidence and spontaneity to showcase his qualities. According to the site, he must quickly show a completely different side to climb the hierarchy of Luis Enrique.

On Wednesday Godts may be awaiting a new chance, should PSG take up the Champions League‑match against Manchester City. A stronger display would be needed to regain the coach's confidence.
